Why wont a cars starter work?
[Conscious Junkyard] During a start, once the starter’s rotating pinion gear reaches the missing teeth of the ring gear, it would no longer mesh and would stop turning the flywheel, and the starter would simply spin. Another type of starting problem occurs when you try to start the car and it’s followed by a loud high-pitched noise, which is the sound of the starter spinning without having engaged the ring gear. Repeating the effort a time or two might result in a successful engagement and engine start.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Solo2.org] My Cars Weblog - Thursday, October 14, 2004 Entries: Shortly after the new engine was put in I fried the the clutches. I had those replaced with better ones and about two weeks later I blew out second gear. After coming to a conclusion that the TH350 could not handle the horsepower and I would rather have a 4 speed I put in a TH200-R4.
