[I Hate the Word "Texting"] Texting While Driving PSA Commercial Controversy (Video) Teen Text ...: A teen text head on crash from a texting while driving PSA commercial (Its a YouTube hit) has sparked outrage from some that believe the video is too stunning and even too graphic as it shows the possibilities of driving while distracted by a cell …

[Unclutterer] Behavioral clutter: Texting while driving | Unclutterer: Those who drive with other people in the car have conversations all the time while driving, and I don’t see it as any different if it’s on the phone or in person, so long as you don’t need to take your eyes off the road while operating your phone. That said, there are some people who just *can’t* concentrate on driving while talking (I’ve been in the car with a few), and EVERYONE should avoid having emotionally or intellecutally intense conversations of any kind while driving.

[Ethics Newsline®] Ethics Newsline® » Commentary » The Next Great Moral Test: If so, maybe these addictions, like drunk driving, someday will produce so much public outrage that it becomes socially acceptable to resist them. Meanwhile, the devil’s question is this: Are we, as a nation, capable of denying ourselves the immediate gratification of driving while texting?

[Whimsy] Dangers of Texting & Driving - GRAPHIC! | Whimsy: I watched this video a few days ago and it’s still embedded in my brain.  There will no doubt be those who condemn its graphic nature and discourage it’s viewing.  But I’m here to tell you this.  If my kid was 16, driving around with her little friends in MY car, faces all pressed up against cell-phones, completely oblivious to any element of danger…..then I would sit her down and make her watch this video.  If it takes something this graphic to get these kids to sit up and truly see the dangers of texting while driving, then I’m all for it.  My child’s life is more valuable to me than censorship.

[Kiwiblog] Peter Gibbons has to go right ahead and disagree with David P ...: In the vast majority of cases, all of these assumptions are wrong.  Many people on our roads combine arrogance and incompetence with sometimes lethal results.  There are certainly many sources of distractions while driving but using a cell phone is rarely unavoidable.  If it really is vital, make a small investment and buy a hands-free gizmo or use the Blue Fang Face Blog-type set-up David P Farrar already has in his limousine.

[Wellness Blogs at DailyStrength] What About a Junk-Food Tax? at DailyStrength: The reason we all pay for the mistakes of some is because the government has already stepped in to play the Nanny State. The whole concept of from each according to his willingness to tolerate theft to each according to his greed for unearned gain is the reason all must pay for the mistakes of some.

[Well] Teens Texting and Driving - Well Blog - NYTimes.com: However, texting and driving is but one of many dangerous behaviors that teens engage in, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock. I’m sure that if it were feasible, photos could be taken of teens doing a number of other dangerous things - having unprotected sex, doing drugs, performing wild skateboarding tricks without a helmet, etc…Teens think they are invicible - always have, always will.

[Business Hacks] For Heaven's Sake, Don't Text and Drive! | Business Hacks | BNET: But this single-minded fixation on one cause of distracted driving is weird and arbitrary. Where are the studies and where is the outrage over driving while reading a map or driving while eating a burger?

[CNET News.com] Manhole swallows teen texter | Technically Incorrect - CNET News: a pretty girl, a hot car driving by, bumping into someone you know, your dog getting itself into trouble...the list is virtually endless. In this case it only gets press because it happens to be a case of texting, and we all know how volatile this issue has been in the case of driving.

[Dave Moulton's Bike Blog] Dave Moulton's Blog - Dave Moulton's Bike Blog - US quashed report ...: I'm a regular bicycle commuter, and I see drivers text messaging while "driving" every single day I ride. This makes me fear for my life and the lives of my friends and fellow cyclists.

[Consumer Reports Cars Blog] Should cell phone use by drivers be illegal?: Consumer Reports ...: Compared with undistracted drivers, those who used cellphones drove an average of 2 miles per hour slower. This is a good sign, but even driving slowly can cause accidents because annoyed drivers who are being held up may drive recklessly to pass the cellphone user.

[Red Alert] Hands free and the nanny « Red Alert: Simon - I've never seen a plan to ban lightbulbs or hot showers. I don't think even the Nats claimed that one.

Sometimes the fear of punishment influences our decisions.
