[Detnews.com] Fitch downgrades Ford - but not to junk status - 5/20/05: Ford - which like rival General Motors Corp. faces a financial crisis because of higher gasoline prices and loss of market share to Japanese competitors - lost its investment-grade ranking from Standard & Poor's earlier this month, along with GM. Fitch said it is unlikely to knock Ford's ratings to junk anytime this year. The agency dropped the senior unsecured debt ratings of Ford and finance arm Ford Motor Credit one level to BBB from a BBB+, and maintained a negative outlook. The automaker's new rating is two levels above so-called junk status.
