[AutoblogGreen] VIDEO: Driving a Tesla-powered Smart: Perhaps more interesting than the ride, at least for some electro-geeks, are some of the pictures Doug took of the battery pack on display that will go into the electric smarts. Encased in metal and painted black, the battery looked much smaller than a Roadster pack and is said to be able to power the fortwo up to 100 miles.
[TreeHugger] GM Defends the Volt, Attacks Smaller Electric Car Start-Ups (Tesla ...: Aside from the obvious impending bankruptcy of GM which will leave them developing nothing at all, and aside from the fact that poor people pay tax dollars so that $7500 cheques can be issued to rich people so that they can buy expensive electric sports cars and feel better driving from their 12000 square foot mansion 75 miles out of town, the big problem with GM is that they haven't had an actual car guy in charge since John DeLorean was around. GM is suited to banking and influence peddling, but not automotive design.

This may be a horrible idea from the consumer’s point of view but it does keep the acquisition price down and not require monthly fees.

I would not get a hybrid that plugs in because, although I haven’t worked the numbers, it would probably cost me more for the electricity than for gas and I don’t want to be dependent on the big energy companies any more than I want to be dependent on foreign oil.
