[Popular Science] Does Science Obviate Religion? | Popular Science: Now I'm a Coptic Orthodox Christian and quite ignorant when it comes to some degree of religion and definitely science, (first year college), but I feel when you mention that Christians state the earth was only around 5000 years, you may have been told that by an uninformed christian or just was some common understanding or belief, but in fact the bible would clearly state that the earth was made in six phases, or six days and the seventh was the rest day, as said in the first word and chapter of the bible (genesis). I wont post bible quotes here not to offend anyone, but it clearly outlines the phases that is actually accepted in the scientific community as how the planet earth developed billions of years ago.

[MetaFilter] The Tesla Roadster | MetaFilter: Luckily there is the public transportation alternative but that is more expensive, cramped, and stressful than just driving. Plus, this is the northeast I'm talking about, most of the country does not have any type of commuter train service.

[Britannica Blog] Abortion, Stem Cells, and How Morality Works: Reinventing Morality ...: I am not against progress as such but I exercise my efforts to make progress based on where it is heading the goal or aim with care to avoid unacceptable casualties along the way. This particular topic proposes that there are potential cures for such research, however, the cost is too great, both financially and in moral terms. So far as mentioned in my last post no cure has thus been discovered, in fact at least one major research giant has pulled out of this area completely. If per say there were some therapy that did come out of embryonic stem cell ( note I’m not saying adult or umbilical based stem cell treatments)then the cost would be so prohibitive only the very wealthy would be able to afford it as it requires the production of a human embryo to be produced which first must come from a fertile womans ovary. Where are they going to get these from…

[Pajamas Media] Pajamas Media » Lose the Pointy Shoes, Guys: The male gender is in danger, with incalculable consequences for both humans and wildlife, startling scientific research from around the world reveals. The research - to be detailed tomorrow in the most comprehensive report yet published - shows that a host of common chemicals is feminising males of every class of vertebrate animals, from fish to mammals, including people.

[Streetsblog] Streetsblog » BRT, Rail, and New York City: A Conversation With ...: If a light rail station has all the same features as a BRT system, including pre-paid boarding from stations with platforms level with the vehicle floor, and there is only one exclusive lane available (no space for a passing lane at the station), so express services are impossible, and the LRT has an ultra-modern signaling system like they have in Zurich, it might be possible to reach capacities of about 20,000 passengers per direction during a single peak hour using LRT, while a BRT with the exact same configuration would only be able to reliably move about 15,000 at a similar speed. But there are almost no corridors in the United States with transit demand above 15,000 at the peak hour per direction that do not currently have a metro or subway line in them, so ultimately, the preference for light rail over a proper BRT system is mostly aesthetics and ignorance of the technical capabilities of a well-planned and implemented BRT system.

[IntentBlog] Is This the Crack That Will Bring Down the Castle? : IntentBlog: Well, right wingers who talk about establishing modern technology clearly ignore the findings of MODERN SCIENCE (another good case of right wing hypocrisy). If using the term "eco-terrorists" for people who don't allow the refineries and make the American life a little harsh on gas price issue (not having a proper vision for future transportation is one of the biggest American failures) is correct, what can I use for people who want to build refineries and mess up the life of not just Americans but the whole world for centuries and centuries.

[Comments for Cosmic Variance] Black Scientists | Cosmic Variance | Discover Magazine: My father sold plumbing material and janitorial supplies in Chicago and the suburbs but, due to his fears of walking through all black neighborhoods, he did not sell to many high schools and businesses in Chicago with such a racial makeup. It would have been in the interest of that company to fire my father and hire a black salesperson instead, reaping higher sales for the company.

[Captain's Blog] Captain's Blog: Deep Impact ... Deeper Confusion: So before this joins the "waiting room" reading in a bla bla way, did any one catch my input of the South Pole-Aitken Crater(on the moon)or Uranus tipped over with black rings and moonlets etc. that helps support the mounting evidence of Planet V that exploded or cleaved in a dramatic event?

[churumuri] ”˜If IT takes away Bangalore’s values, burn IT’ « churumuri: In what sense have the Theosophical Society, Wadia Institute, Gokhale Institute, Mythic Society, yes, IISC and its cheap money making imitations like PES, the Kannada Adhyayana Samsthe at Bangalore University, the Culture department of Karnataka Government once headed by a woman who can be as un-Kannadithi as one can imagine, and the like influenced or improved the quality of life for our brothers and sisters who sell vegetables from pushcarts, still work with their hands, backs bent, on the streets of our mahanagara?

[Roissy in DC] How American Women Are Seen By Kazakhs « Roissy in DC: If it is, then some have to see that it doesn’t mesh well with all the Evolutionary psychology that routinely gets thrown around this blog. Their claims to greatness notwithstanding, people like Roissy can’t walk up to any woman on the face of the earth and always get a positive reaction out of them, because it’s a two way street.
