[The Car Connection] Focus On Fours, Direct Injection Helps Keep Hyundai On A Roll ...: 2010 Hyundai TucsonEnlarge Photo2010 Hyundai TucsonEnlarge Photo2010 Hyundai TucsonEnlarge Photo2010 Hyundai TucsonEnlarge Photo2010 Hyundai TucsonEnlarge PhotoAs shoppers remain worried about the day-to-day economics of driving, Hyundai is looking like one of the best-prepared automakers. The automaker has a new focus, for its new and upcoming products, of keeping weight and engine size down, and it shows both in the new 2010 Tucson introduced at the LA show today and the 2011 Sonata introduced yesterday. The new Tucson is 61 pounds lighter than the Tucson it replaces, and has greatly improved fuel economy ratings of 23 mpg city, 31 highway.According to Hyundai Motor America president and CEO John Krafcik, the automaker has been keeping a close watch over weight every step of the way, part of the weight savings can be attributed to not having to accommodate the larger engine structurally. As with the 2011 Sonata, Hyundai will rely on the new Theta II direct-injection four-cylinder, which brings the Tucson a 20-percent fuel-economy improvement over the previous four-cylinderalong with more power than the 2.7-liter V-6 previously offered in the Tucson.Curiously, Hyundai had made the commitment to four-cylinders and the decision to phase out the V-6 engines in mid-size offerings well before the recession.
[The Truth About Cars] Hyundai Tops Honda As Most Fuel Efficient Automaker | The Truth ...: So the original poster has a valid point. However Toyota sells many more larger vehicles and is only 3 tenths behind Honda so Honda’s not doing all that well. In fact I feel that Honda has really fallen behind the competition in the efficiency of their cars focusing more on hybrids, fuel cells cars, robots, ugly duckling styling rather than making their cars lighter and more efficient through materials and technology of the engines and chassis.
[Straightline] 2011 Hyundai Sonata Revealed at the L.A. Auto Show: This car is better (except in styling) than everything on the market today save the 2010 Fusion- those two are pretty close in features and efficiency, plus the Fusion is available with a V6 and hybrid drivetrain. Its a good thing Toyota and Honda generally don't have to worry about their loyal customers actually checking out the competition because if they did Camry/Accord sales would plummet next year.
[The Truth About Cars] LA Auto Show: 2011 Hyundai Sonata | The Truth About Cars: LOL. I remember that Excel I road tested in 86 that conked out during the test drive. I thought Hyundai was going the way of Yugo…a few years later I test drove their second-gen Sonata and was quite impressed. I driven several of their cars since then and think that they’ve done a great job of improving their cars in terms of reliability and drivability. Good for them. Chrysler and GM have been sleeping, and now they are paying the price.

[Checkered Flag Blog for Toyota Scion Honda Hyundai VW BMW MINI smart Jaguar Porsche Audi] Checkered Flag Blog for Toyota Scion Honda Hyundai VW BMW MINI ...: Although Honda and particularly Toyota rely on hybrid technology to boost overall fuel economy, Krafcik said hybrids arent a big part of Hyundais plans due to added costs, noting Americans have shown, at least in the current gasoline price regime, that they are not able to make that cost-benefit trade-off. However, Hyundai is planning to launch its first hybrid in the U.S. in the coming months.
[The Truth About Cars] GM, Chrysler Agree To Reconsider Dealer Cull | The Truth About Cars: dealer (not really local to me) in a small farming community 80 miles northeast of here. This dealership was the only new car dealer within 80 miles of this community, and it had the best reputation for service. I had never heard a bad statement regarding the dealer and plenty of positive ones. GM could only hope that its remaining dealers had half as good of a reputation (the one where I live certainly doesn’t). I’ve heard stories of the owner stopping on the way to and from work to help a motrist change a tire or giving people a free tow because they couldn’t afford one, and if the repair wasn’t to difficult he might do that for free as well for somebody in need. He was a strong believer that if you treat people right they’ll treat you right. The current owner was the second generation operating the dealership. His dad bought it in the 1950’s ,and he was an employee until he took it over in the early 70’s. While he was pushing 80 and ready for retirement anyway, it was obviously a punch in the gut when GM yanked the rug out from under him.

[The Truth About Cars] LA Auto Show: Chevrolet Cruze | The Truth About Cars: are you kidding me? Their more powerful engine is packing a walloping 140hp from a turbo 1.4L engine. Figure an extra 50lbs to go with it for 3150. The Corolla XRS is a s.4L engine with 158hp (probably close to bulletproof, too, they’ve made millions of these for the Camry and Rav4) with a curb weight of just under 2900 lbs. It’s got 18 more hp, probably a broader torque curve (I’ve driven that engine in a Camry and it’s very lively) and 250 fewer lbs to pull. That SS brand is going to get left behind.
