I know I'm luckier than most... I've been given a lot of opportunities, talents, capabilities, even money, whatever. And I've done nothing with anything I've been given.

[Milkplus.blogspot.com] Milk Plus: a discussion of film: Rather, one of the most charming elements of the film is its loving cinematic anarchy, with no point in sight and no rule of convention isnt bendable, if not breakable. Kung Fu Hustle spiritedly, liberally embraces all its characters, good or bad, and they each are distinctly drawn and given their fair share of hilarity. The evil gang boss, after bloodily executing a group of rival gang members in the films opening minutes, gets a funky dance and musical number to introduce his sinister gang, and the Landlady, initially setup as a socially acceptable evil female twin of the gang leader, turns out to be an endearing heroine with a wicked martial power. The film is so slippery in its postmodernity, so simultaneously caring in its references and carefree in making a coherent film out of them it is hard not to bask in the cinematic exuberance.
[Trainque.com] Jarrod Trainque » Kung Fu Hustle & Its All Gone, Pete Tong: The fight sequences are genuinely interesting and fun (or more accurately, silly). The characters are thoroughly developed despite the minimal dialogue, and unlike deeper kung-fu movies, Kung-Fu Hustle doesn’t require the audience to be a fan of the genre in order to enjoy it. Yet this movie does shows a sense of humor about the genre (and movies in general), and so astute viwers will likely laugh at the rapid-fire self-effacing cliches (Example: a fallen fighter, immediately before dying, utters his last cliched words in English. To which is replied “Why aren’t you speaking in Chinese?")

[Spaces.msn.com] Blog: Took some time to peruse the blog. Read your story about the softball game. Again, it was an interesting opportunity to learn more about you. Glad you enjoyed the game. It makes me reflect on myself a bit - I've been realizing as of late that sports are really fun for me. It's a way that I feel I connect with people, being a part of a team, celebrating with folks over an awesome play, or bout of passing, or the occasional glorious goal. Wow, I feel like I'm writing my own Writer's Block right now.
