VW has repeatedly shot itself in the foot in the US market with terrible after sale support and reliability nightmare vehicles.

[drive blog] drive blog: Is retro car design here to stay?: I reckon retro cars will be around for a while but it will be interesting to see how the current Mustang, or this new Dodge Challenger or Ford GT or VW Beetle or Mini will look in the future, how do you do a proper update of these cars? The Americans are relying heavily on their 1960's glory days and there are many many classics they can revive, so i guess they could do it for a while but looking at a chronology of these American cars you'll see the glory days of the 60's and a steady decline all the way up until the late 90's where the cars became a joke and a laughing stock then in the 2000's straight back to the 1960's with a modern twist in order to put something decent together.

Cars are inextricably tied to 20th century American identity and its attendant ideals of individual self-expression and the Creator-endowed right to life, liberty and the 70-mph speed limit.

[Seattle Transit Blog] Editorial: Why Not Electric Cars? - Seattle Transit Blog: The point I was trying to make is I think the idea of a car that can work as an electric vehicle for short trips and otherwise uses regenerative braking with an ICE is a good one. But it doesn’t get us off fossil fuels or eliminate CO2 emissions, it just means cars might be a little less wasteful in the future.
