Drivers Drive: An Automotive Blog With Car News and Resourceshttp://www.driversdrive.com [Drivers Drive: An Automotive Blog With Car News and Resources] Not good for the company that just reported a bad first quarter. The Associated Press says the brunt of the recall is "1.48 million SUVs and pickups from the 2003-2005 model years, including the Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, Suburban, Tahoe, Avalanche; Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, GMC Sierra Crew Cab, Yukon XL, Yukon, and the Hummer H2s." These vehicles were recalled because of a problem with the center safety belt in the second row that causes the belts to ride too high -- possibly reducing protection. No injuries have occured because of the faulty seat belt. The AP says GM will fix the problem for no charge.

[TruckSpy] Son of More GM Investigations: IN NOVEMBER 2004, GM NOTIFIED ODI THAT IT WAS RECALLING APPROXIMATELY 150,000 MODEL YEAR 1999-2002 C/K MODEL TRUCKS IN EASTERN CANADA TO CORRECT A CONDITION IN THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) THAT MAY RESULT IN UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS. GM INDICATED THAT THE CONDITION CAN OCCUR IF CORROSION FORMS UNDER THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND MOVES THE SENSOR AWAY FROM THE INTEGRAL SPEED-SENSOR TOOTHED RING. THE CONDITION DOES NOT SET ANY ABS CODES NOR DOES IT ILLUMINATE THE ABS WARNING LAMP. GM'S RECALL PROCEDURE INVOLVED REMOVING THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, CLEANING THE SENSOR MOUNTING SURFACES ON THE BEARINGS, APPLYING ZINC-X TO THE CLEANED SURFACES, GREASING THE MOUNTING SURFACES, REINSTALLING THE SPEED SENSORS, AND VERIFYING THAT THE WHEEL SPEED SIGNAL OUTPUT VOLTAGES WERE WITHIN SPECIFICATION.

Akkam's Razor[Akkam's Razor] Benefits of a recall to an Automobile Manufacturer: Now, those very same vehicles are all due for redesigns in the very near future, with the large SUVs (Suburban/Escalade, Escalade EXT/Avalanche, Tahoe/Yukon) will be transitioning to a whole new platform, internally known as GMT900, very shortly. Now, as a manufacturer, sometimes you never see these vehicles again until the show up at a dealership for some warranty required maintenance. If the vehicle went into a company or rental fleet, it could never see a dealers service bay (and never get an NVH, or National Vehicle History, performed) and subsequently be sold and resold, making the "owner of record" in the manufacturer's database innacurate.

[Strategize.blogspot.com] Strategize: GM mass recall: If you have virtually any 2003-2005 GM SUV or crew cab truck you’ll probably be getting a recall notice. 1.5 million 2003-2005 Chevy Silverado Crew Cabs, Suburbans, Tahoes, Avalanches, Cadillac Escalades, Escalade ESVs, Escalade EXTs, GMC Sierra Crew Cabs, Yukons, Yukon XLs and Hummer H2s have been recalled for faulty rear safety belts that don’t protect passengers adequately. No one has been injured as a result.

In general, I think the Escalade looks better in the color Black or Vanilla. A few weeks back I saw this spectacular Escalade. It was painted in two tone; the lower portion (fenders, bumpers, and lower exterior panels) was painted a smooth gold while the upper half was painted black.
