[Jalopnik] 1960s Dodge Charger Fans Sending Hate Mail to Chrysler: On one hand, the company is riding on a resurgence of Hemi-powered muscle, on the other, it’s not a real Hemi, in the strictest sense of 1960s engine architecture, and, hello?, it’s a sedan. Those tensions are said to be drawing angry reactions from enthusiasts, many of whom see any Chrysler-built Charger outside of the golden years of 1966 to 1971 as having debased the name. The fact that Chrysler is planning to have plenty of Hemi engines available when the new Charger ships in January 2005 to meet demand is no consolation to those who were expecting the car to look more like the 1999 Charger Concept.

AutoWeek at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show - Photo gallery: Calling it simply another mini-wagonette-crossover-thingy misses the point of the Caliber-despite the Dodge's own trite description of it as "a five-door vehicle that combines a sporty coupe-like profile with the strength, stand and functionality of an SUV." In reality, the little five-door hatchback represents an exercise on the brand's part to design for markets beyond our own borders, especially in Europe where the compact C-segment reigns supreme-and where Dodge means little more than "duck." (Remember, on Euro shores it's called the Chrysler Viper.) But if Dodge has a snowball's chance of succeeding across the pond, we think it would be with something along the lines of this mini-Magnum.

So said Dieter Zetsche, who apparently forgot that for most of the 1980s, the Charger nameplate graced a whole slew of Omni-based front-drive compacts. That aside, we like much of what we see in the Charger. Styling details like a more hard-edged front end keep the Charger from looking too much like its Magnum stablemate, while its more defined hips separate it nicely from the Chrysler 300. And of course, it's got the Hemi.
Detroit Auto Show: Autoweek blows embargo, releases official Dodge ...: Just saw the pic of the new Charger, i'm not sure if i'll like it or not though i can say its not the car i was hoping for this thing looks like a Magnum sedan...What happened to building the orginal prototype? that looked like a Charger of the past meets today , I was really looking forward to purchasing that car!!
