[Sidecar's Dislocated Dreams] We're Goin Back!: We're celebrating our anniversary each year with a visit to a different national park, or at least as many as we can manage to fit into ten days. Last year, it was Acadia in Maine and 2003 was an epic journey that included Death Valley, Snow Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Grand Staircase, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, Arches, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, and Sedona. Back further in 2002 we tripped up in the Adirondacks and then Shenandoah in 2001. Back further in 1999 we had been through Arizona for Grand Canyon, Superstition Wilderness, and Saguaro NP.
The Plutonium: There are few things I enjoy more than the great outdoors. I'm stoked because next week I'm off to Utah with PLU's Outdoor Rec to explore the wonders of Capital Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Capital Reef National Parks. I imagine I will get some killer pictures which I promise to share here. In the meantime, Pajama Jihad has some commentary on the beauty of the outdoors and the scum that litter:
The Plutonium: This post has caused considerable controversy(as it should) because CR Activist called two individuals who wrote letters to the editor "liberal wackos" and "misguided loony-toons" and posted pictures of them. The direction the blog was headed made its name "The Rant" entirely appropriate. As a Republican I think it's unecessary to make personal attacks on those we disagree with. We should engage in respectful debate that promotes political discussion, not dislike.
Hackstadt.com - Adventure: In July 1996, we made a road trip through several of the incredible national parks in the Southwest U.S. Both of us had secured short-term positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory and we decided to make a vacation of the otherwise long drive between Eugene, OR and Los Alamos, NM. Along the way, we stopped at Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Bryce Canyon N.P., Capitol Reef N.P., Arches N.P., and Natural Bridges N.M. From Los Alamos, we made separate trips to Bandelier N.M. and Carlsbad Caverns N.P.
Desert Blog: Finally (why do I need to use that term so much?), after several years with a website without photos of what is probably my favorite area I now have added to Desert Space a few photos from the Colorado Plateau. This area includes Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Capitol Reef NP, Grand Staircase - Escalante NM, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon NP, and many, many square miles of undesignated spectacular coolness. These are not new photos, (in fact many/most of them pre-date my visits to the other deserts), but I'm beginning to do some archeology in my slide stores, and these are a mixed small sample/selection of what I've looked at so far. I have hundreds more...some of which to be added...soon...I claim.
