[Wheels] But the company that made the system said it was not to blame and warned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last year, in response to an earlier recall, that even after G.M.’s fix, owners remained at risk from fires because it believed the electrical system in the vehicles was flawed.

[Guy Fawkes' blog] Farm-Gate: GM Lobbying Links Falling on Defra Ears - Guy Fawkes' blog: “Startling evidence emerged yesterday of how pro-GM lobbyists helped to draft a major report on the cultivation and sale of such crops. An email trail revealed close links between the Agricultural Biotechnology Council, which represents GM food giants such as Monsanto, and the Food Standards Agency, which oversees the food industry. Members of the council succeeded in having controversial pro-GM paragraphs inserted into an FSA report published last year. They suggested changes including a claim that genetically modified foods could keep food prices down.”
[Leftlane - news, reviews, and info for the auto-industry] GM seeks 50-50 warranty cost split with suppliers: “If GM has designed a way to streamline the process of allocating warranty cost responsibility, God bless them, but in 100 years of automobile manufacturing, automakers and suppliers have not been able to do that,” said William Kohler, senior attorney and co-leader of the Detroit-based Butzel Long P.C.’s automotive industry practice, speaking with Crain’s Detroit Business. “They have historically argued and sometimes litigated over who is responsible for warranty costs, because those are very complex and sometimes extremely high-stakes issues.”
[Sweetness & Light] Selected News Items For June 5 - June 11 | Sweetness & Light: GM recalled more than 900,000 vehicles because of the heated washer fluid system in August 2008 because a short circuit on the circuit board could overheat the ground wire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had opened an investigation in February 2008 into 2007 Yukon and Tahoe vehicles over potential engine compartment fires.
[POLITICO Top Stories] A built-in incentive for oil spills - Michael Greenstone ...: If you can't get a license to drill on land (such as part of ANWR or areas on Federal land in the Western US) or you can't get a license to drill close to shore in places like California, Florida, or the Eastern seaboard, then you are only left with deep water locations. Secondly, if you raise the cap from $75 million or eliminate the cap altogether, then insurance rates will rise for oil companies adding to the price of oil and gasoline.
[Advertising Age - Latest News] Auto Recall: What Got Toyota Into This Mess? - Global News ...: Toyota never publicly acknowledged it had a problem with an increasingly aging consumer base, even though the average Toyota buyer in the United States was roughly the same age as a gray-haired Buick buyer -- until the day it unveiled its Scion sub-brand, designed to attract younger shoppers.
[The Truth About Our World...] The Secret History of Lead « The Truth About Our World”¦: Perhaps if leaded gasoline kills enough people soon enough to impress the public, we may get from Congress a much-needed law and appropriation for the control of harmful substances other than foods. But it seems more likely that the conditions will grow worse so gradually and the development of lead poisoning will come on so insidiously (for this is the nature of the disease) that leaded gasoline will be in nearly universal use and large numbers of cars will have been sold that can run only on that fuel before the public and the Government awaken to the situation….
[Saabs United] Saab USA European Delivery Program - the latest info: To the person who implied that Saab’s corporate culture will remain the same as it did under GM, I have one word: phooey! If Mr Colleran is too GM-like in his management style (read: boot-licker only concerned with his compensation), I doubt he’d last long with the new ownership.
[US Recall News] Ford Recall History Puts Toyota Recalls in Perspective: More stringent manufacturing processes from the already stringent Japanese automakers may be on the horizon. It will be interesting to watch shareholder reactions to both Ford and Toyota alike as the auto recall situation plays itself out through the remainder of 2010.
[The Truth About Cars] Why Toyota Must Replace Flawed CTS Gas Pedal With Superior Denso ...: I think it’s more than likely that the throttle pedal recall, like the floor-mat recall, is a smokescreen designed to shield Toyota from possible negligence suits arising from the lack of this throttle kill-switch. Nothing else could justify having mechanics at thousands of dealers repair millions of throttle pedals, a process that will inevitably create at least one unintended acceleration incident due to a botched fix.
[The Big Picture] Double Dip ” Or Just a Soft Patch ? | The Big Picture: Far-right Republicans (aka Tea Party) will sponsor low-grade mass violence (it’s in the DNA of Southern-style retro-populist conservatism) and–thanks to highly public trials–will see themselves become the poster children for domestic terrorism thus clearing the way for most Republicans to move back toward the center and break partisan ideological gridlock.

[Bob Smizik's Blog] Letters: Image makeover for Nutting - Bob Smizik's Blog - post ...: About one month ago I found myself at Greater Pitt airport waiting for a flight to Orlando on Southwest Airlines.Lo and behold,I look up and there is Bob Nutting waiting also.I proceeded to walk over and we had a very pleasant conversation on the Pirates and other things. One,he made it plain to me he is staying the course on the path set by himself,NH,and FC.He said it's the only way to go after past failures. He also said no gambling for Seven Springs as he wants to keep it a family type resort. He said he occasionally reads these sports blogs and ripped the Post -Gazette for discontinuing its service outside a thirty mile area.I AGREE 100% on that.He said people want a paper in their hand in the morning and shouldn't have to resort to the internet to read their local paper.I'll give him that-the guy does know the newspaper business. He said he was flying into Orlando and then renting a car to drive to Bradenton to see the farm team's first game in the Florida State League.I wanted to ask him why was he flying a low cost airline to Orlando rather than flying first class to Tampa on a different airline and getting a rental car there for a much shorter drive to Bradenton than from Orlando. But I figured this was none of my business[I did wonder though if this was an example of being as frugal in his personal life as his frugal ways of running the Bucs.]Just thought I'd share this with your readers.

[The LoHud Yankees Blog] Postgame notes: “He's our 3 hitter” | The Lohud Yankees Blog: This is where the GM needs to step in like he did for the A-Rod situation in Miami last year. If the manager is too clueless to make a change, the GM has to be smart enough to.

[Comments for Packernet's View] Packernet's View » Blog Archive » Offseason raising expectations ...: All of the OL additions came in with good enough pedigrees to be selected and placed in positions to perform (Klemm, Whittaker, Palmer, Coston, Moll, Colledge, Spitz, Giacomini, Barbre, ED-S, Lang to a lesser degree), the steps to the next level have not happened (with the lone exception of Sitton) and with the physical and mental tools these guys possess, I blame the coaching that our OL hasn’t advanced beyond inconsistent at the NFL level outside of the pro’s already trained by OL coaches that came before the current crew.
