[WSJ.com: Driver's Seat] The new vehicle would have the traditional advantages of traveling over land but would be able to avoid certain hazards like roadside bombs by flying over danger zones. The defense agency said its intended missions include medical evacuation, remote resupply, and the insertion of Special Forces units. The vehicle will be able to travel about 280 miles by land and air and would take off and land vertically to gain access to terrain too difficult for fixed-wing aircraft or inaccessible to wheeled vehicles.
