[DealBook] The Moody’s analysts wrote that the Indiana funds may well have been right, and that Chrysler’s 363 sale bypassed the normal reorganization procedures available in a Chapter 11 case. (To be sure, the sale of the bulk of Chrysler’s assets is allowed under section 363(f) of the bankruptcy code.) But at the same time, the bankruptcy court judge appeared to be balancing being fair to Chrysler’s creditors with making sure that the company survived, something that the company and the government said wasn’t possible without the sale.

Subaru Charges Into Electric Cars With Stella EV : Gas 2.0

[Gas 2.0] Subaru has announced an initial run of 170 cars, which will available to Japanese customers in July. The price has been set at ¥4,725,000 (around $49,000) but buyers will be eligible to apply for a ¥1,380,000 (around $14,000) Japanese government subsidy through its Next Generation Vehicle Promotion Center program. Additional tax reductions are also expected to further encourage buyers following special measures brought in by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Corporate Average Fuel Economy Standards (C.A.F.E. Economics 101 ...

[Mountain Sage] A 30 cent per gallon tax increase, according to Eugene Gotwalt is the way to go to encourage fuel conservation. There’s a lot wrong with that position in my opinion, but the first is he claims that increase would cost consumers approximately $225 a year whereas a vehicle with higher MPG standards would cost $1300. While that may be true it would be a better comparison to divide $1300 by the number of years the vehicle would be owned by the buyer as well as factoring in the savings on gas for the higher fuel efficiency, add the two and compare that to $225 a year. In my opinion his comparison as it stands is not a valid and fair comparison of the costs.

[Lounge of the Lab Lemming] I've noticed that the Prius on-board display consistently overestimates its fuel efficiency (i.e.., gives me more MPG) as compared to what I get when I divide miles driven per gallon of gas at the station. I've been recording it since purchase, but haven't bothered to graph it yet.

IIHS Gives Small Cars Poor Marks for Bumper Collisions - KickingTires

[KickingTires] Out of seven cars, none received the top rating of Good. The Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Mini Cooper and Toyota Yaris all received the lowest rating, Poor, while the Chevy Aveo managed a Marginal rating and the Smart ForTwo was rated Acceptable thanks to its pre-painted, dent-resistant body panels, which are inexpensive and easy to replace.

Porsche reportedly closing in on Qatar investment deal

[Autoblog] Following deals that have seen Kuwaiti firms take control of Aston Martin and Abu Dhabi investing in Daimler and Ferrari, Porsche is reportedly closing in on a deal that would see the Qatar state government help Porsche pull itself out of debt and regroup for its planned take-over of the Volkswagen auto empire. The once cash-flushed sportscar-maker is in the process of refinancing its debt to the tune of 12.5 billion euros, but with 10.75 billion already raised, a request pending for another 1.75 billion from the German federal government and an anticipated additional billion in revenues anticipated this year, Porsche is still eager to bring in more capital.
