New laws target driving, crime, politicians

[Untitled] California will impound the car of anyone with a blood-alcohol level of 0.01 percent if that person already has a previous driving-under-the-influence offense. Alaska, Illinois, South Carolina and Washington state will require those convicted of drunken driving to install a special breathalyzer in their cars, which locks the vehicle’s ignition if the driver is intoxicated.

US Hybrid Battery Companies Join Forces | Hybrid Cars

[HybridCars.com] The newly formed National Alliance for Advanced Transportation Battery Cell Manufacture will create one or more manufacturing and prototype development centers in the United States, working with the Argonne National Laboratory as advisors. Members include 3M, ActaCell, All Cell Technologies, Altair Nanotechnologies, EaglePicher, EnerSys, Envia Systems, FMC, Johnson Controls-Saft, MicroSun, Mobius Power, SiLyte, Superior Graphite and Townsend Advanced Energy.

Toyota Predicts First Loss in 70 Years | Hybrid Cars

Detroit Auto Show: 2009 Mercedes McLaren SLR Sterling Moss

[Jalopnik: Top] Developers working on the Stirling Moss were able to fall back on a wealth of experience gathered when producing the SLR Coupé and Roadster, in particular where the technical base was concerned, with its extravagant carbon-fibre design, high-performance suspension and throaty V8 engine. The common denominator uniting the Stirling Moss with the other members of the SLR family is the aerodynamic concept with a closed underbody and a diffuser in the rear bumper for maximum possible downforce at the rear axle - with one difference: the diffuser here is considerably larger than that on the coupé and roadster.

DI FTW: GM new direct-inject 2.4L EcoTec and 3.0L V6 - Autoblog

[Autoblog] This evening GM has unveiled a 2.4-liter direct injection EcoTec four-cylinder that will kick out 180 horsepower while returning a projected EPA highway rating of 30 mpg (Ford's 2.5L I-4 produces 170 hp and returns a maximum of 28 mpg highway). It's a marvelous way to send the old 3.4 liter V6 into the sunset, but if you absolutely must have a V6, there's also a DI 3.0-liter version of GM's excellent "high feature" V6 delivering an impressive 255 horsepower (Again, Ford's heavily revised 3.0L V6 produces 240 hp).
