The Making of a 61-MPG Car: Ford Fiesta ECOnetic
[Hybrid Cars -] What does it take to make a four-seater car that equals the gas mileage of hybrids sold in the States, but without the expensive battery pack and electric motors? Many cars made for the European market use a simple formula: Put a highly efficient turbocharged direct-injection small diesel engine into your basic super-mini, or “B” segment, car”one size smaller than a Volkswagen Golf”and then make every possible tweak to improve its mileage even more.

Are Hybrid Cars Too Quiet to Be Safe for Pedestrians?
[Digg / Environment / upcoming] People love their hybrid automobiles because, above all, they sip rather than guzzle now pricey gasoline. But as the owner of a standard minivan, I also covet a less touted benefit of electric engines: they are delightfully quiet.

Road to better fuel economy?!?
[Nothing to see here. Move along.] That 20 MPG may be a big improvement for that vehicle, but it’s still poor gas mileage. The people willing to pay extra for a hybrid (I’m assuming the hybrid will cost more) are not typically the people who would buy such a fuel inefficient vehicle in the first place.

Ford finally focusing on fuel-efficiency?
[StimulationBlog] On the one hand I knew about Ford being the number one light trucks and SUV manufacturer, but on the other I was also impressed by Ford for being the first manufacturer to (dare to) commercially introduce the flexible-fuel vehicle in Sweden. So there was no real alternative for me at the time (yes, there was: I could have skipped buying a car at all!)
