Dakar: Triple Stage Victory For Volkswagen

[German Car Scene] To top it off, Volkswagen claimed a triple exploit on the 576-kilometre stage from Tambacounda to Dakar: Sainz won ahead of his team-mates Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (South Africa/Germany) and the Race Touareg from Team Lagos, piloted by Carlos Sousa/Andreas Schulz (Portugal/Germany). Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/South Africa) in another Race Touareg completed the Volkswagen foursome at the front of the field by finishing in sixth place.

[German Car Scene] Dakar: Lead Switches Between VW Drivers Posted on 13th January, 2007 by Warren M Filed in Volkswagen Volkswagen maintained its one-two lead, but a change at the top of the leader board saw Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz take the lead, having clinched their second stage victory on the way from Zouérat to AtÃ¢r in Mauritania. De Villiers, finished the 542km stage which was shortened because of safety concerns after a sand storm, almost five minutes ahead of previous race leader Carlos Sainz of Spain on Friday.

[Damian McNicholl's Blog] Siobhan, my sister, just informed me of my nephew David's preparations for his sixth-form social, which is the Northern Irish equivalent of the prom, and they seem extensive. He attends a Catholic college (was Siobhan's alma mater as it used to be a convent (high school) for girls and the surrounding all-boy Catholic high schools nicknamed them the 'blue virgins' because of their royal blue school uniforms) and this is his final year, but it appears times have changed since I was a sixth-former in Ulster.
