ZAP Plans to Sell 15,000 Smart Cars in U.S.

[Drivers Drive: An Automotive Blog With Car News and Resources] The thinking is, with gasoline prices hitting record highs and traffic in the nation’s major cities becoming increasingly congested, Americans are likely to buy fewer gas-guzzling SUVs and trucks and gravitate toward smaller, more efficient vehicles like the Smart Car - a mere 8 feet, 2 inches long and just over 5 feet tall - according to ZAP's CEO Steve Schneider.

New York Auto Show: Scion's FUSE gets lit

[Autoblog] Scion’s keeping tight lipped on the vehicle’s prospects, but it seems to us as more of a flexing of the brand’s customizing muscle. Developed in-house by Toyota and built by Five Axis, creators of a host of craze Scion SEMA concepts, the FUSE has many fun bits and pieces that will never make it to production, like the much talked about wheel-embedded turn signals, color programmable headlights and fog lamps and a large Scion badge that doubles as a video monitor on which downloaded images and video can be displayed.

ZAP zips Smart car sales up to a record month

[Autoblog] On Tuesday, ZAP, makers of the micro Smart Cars (not to be confused with the smart cars by DaimlerChrysler) posted sales totaling $2.3 million since inception according to the company. Said Steve Schneider, ZAP CEO, "The purpose of this announcement is to let the world know that we are executing on our business plan."

"Make Your Own Tahoe Commercial" debacle makes it onto Nightline

[Autoblog] Honestly, the Tahoe is ridiculous and I'd probably never buy one, but it *IS* a nice vehicle (comfortable, nice interior, powerful, etc, etc...) and a lot better than the old one. If you absolutely need something that big and thirst for V8 power and a nice ride, I'd much rather have this than say, a Sequioa.

Smart Cars: Still Coming to America

[Treehugger] TreeHugger first reported that Smart Cars would be availabe in the US about 10 months ago, yet a story in PCmag.com quotes parent-company Smart-Automobile LLC as announcing last week that they would begin making their way in the States. After a bit of digging, we discovered that there was a Smart Car sold stateside in May of last year, but it appeared that the lucky husband & wife in Reno, NV received the first (and only, at the time) model imported into the US via an auction on eBay.
